General Building Maintenance Saves Money

Maintain Buildings Leave on a Roof

Time, use, material quality, and workmanship are determining factors in how long a material will last. Replacing worn items may reduce or eliminate additional expenses.

For example, resulting wind, sun, and inclement weather determine the useful life of shingles. Basic maintenance such as removing debris (straw, leaves, etc.) from a roof can extend shingle life. Damaged or worn shingles may allow water penetration, damaging roof components, or interior materials. A general inspection does not require walking the roof. Standing on the ground look for lifted shingles, missing shingles, or nails protruding through shingles. These are signs maintenance and/or replacement is required.

A hot water heater's useful life can be extended through maintenance. Draining a hot water heater to remove settled particles and residual minerals may prevent premature failure. Observe the outer general appearance. Are there rust stains around the tank base, are the fittings (pipe) rusting, or do they appear to be leaking?

Replacing HVAC filters routinely and annual servicing may extend the HVAC mechanical components. If visible darkening is visible around supply vents the system may require cleaning.

Observe carpeting, vinyl composite tiles, ceramic tile, and laminated vinyl flooring. Are there signs of wear or exposed raised areas creating a tripping hazard? Inspect for areas susceptible to frequent use or exposure to moisture. Moisture, wear and tear, and workmanship is factors when determining when to repair or replace. Tripping hazards are a common source of injury.

Lighting in transition areas may create a fall or tripping hazard. Are stairwells well lighted? Lighting may be installed in difficult-to-reach areas requiring a professional to replace light bulbs. Contact a professional if you are unable to safely replace.

the longer these factors continue the easier it is to overlook or not see them until it is too late. Train yourself to watch and act to prevent accidents and additional costs for maintenance and repairs.

There are multiple occassions when a Realtor, potential homeowner/renter, contractor, restoration company, insurance adjustor or interior decorator may benefit from a 3D immersive walkthrough.

Realtors servicing a potential buyer relocating to may want to "see" their potential home. The convenience of seeing the home via internet instead of waiting to arrive before viewing permits the potential buyer to view more multiple properties. This time saving benefit allows a selection of specific properties saving valuable time.

Insurance adjustors can remotely view properties to determine what services were required and provided. As companies seek methods to reduce costs associated with the claims process the ability to view a loss site via internet increases effeciency and reduces costs.

Contractors can utilize when determing existing floor plans and available options for changes. Validating pre-existing damages and resulting repairs are a valuable asset when property owners are unavailable for a personal site visit.

Business owners and home owners alike can verify contents and structure when securing insurance. Information contained within the 3D walkthrough can be stored for future reference if filing a claim is necassary. Fire damage, theft, accidental damage to structure or contents, storm damage and water damage may neccessatate the need for validating building materials and contents presence. Specialty building material surfaces and high value contents can be captured.

In the unfortunate event of divorce, electronically recording a home or business can provide needed details when establishing equitable distribution of personal and real property.

Previously recorded properties can be provided to emergency response services to determine routes of ingress and egress, reducing time to securely and safely remove individuals. When utilzing remote robotics, the technician can use the walkthrough to assist guiding the robot.

Interior decorators can use for before and after walkthroughs, highlighting improvements. The ability to zoom in on specific points of interest provide a visual effect.

SERVPRO of Fayetteville utilizes Matterport for these and any needs requested by our customers.

Meet our Team - Cody Matthews

Production Manager, Cody Matthews

Cody is a southern boy who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty doing what he loves. As our Production Manager, he enjoys leading our restoration team and learning more about the industry every day.

Cody is a huge asset to our team with his unwillingness to quit and his go-getter personality. He goes out of his way to do everything his team does and more. He sets a strong example of what a leader should be.

Cody carries those same principles to his life outside of SERVPRO as well. On the weekends, he works hard to help his dad with landscaping and construction projects. When he gets a bit of free time, he hunts and fishes with all his best guy friends that he grew up with in Dunn, NC. Cody rarely rests and we always wonder if he ever truly sleeps. The guy is an expert at operating efficiently with no down time in sight.

As we head into the new year, we get to reflect on the incredible people that we have here at our franchise. We are grateful to have Cody as a member of our team. We truly couldn't be successful without them.

Here at SERVPRO of Fayetteville, we want all of our customers to know how much we care about them. The first step we take is answering the phone with care and compassion, knowing that the person on the other end of the line could be having one of the worst days of their life.

Our Office Manager, Kathleen Emond, is the one who takes charge and informs our customers about what we have to offer and how we can make their disaster "Like it never even happened." Kathleen has been with SERVPRO of Fayetteville for 7 years and has 17+ years of restoration experience under her belt. She has worked in the field and in the office so there is not much she hasn't seen and there is no situation she cannot mediate and restore for our customers.

However, there is more to Kathleen than just her restoration and specialty cleaning knowledge. Kathleen is an Army brat who eventually ended up in Pensacola, Florida where she calls home. Although she loves Florida, her son gave her 2 beautiful grandchildren that brought her to Fort Bragg in 2010 and she has never looked back.

Kathleen and her husband enjoy spending time with their family whenever possible. They also enjoy being active in the local Moose Lodge. Kathleen's hobbies that take up the most time outside of work are camping, laughing, swimming, music and dancing like nobody is watching!

Now that you know a little bit more about Kathleen, we hope you feel more than comfortable calling our office in your time of need. We will take care of you and your family like they are our own!
